Ok, ok, so what do fitness camps and weight loss camps have to do with an extremely commercial weight loss tv dinner?  And of course, isn’t it a lot healthier to eat fresh high nutrient foods that are low in fat and carbohydrates and high in protein? To answer the first question, not a whole lot. And to answer the second question, yes, you absolutely should focus on eating a variety of unrefined foods to stay healthy and fit.  However, that’s not to say that we can’t talk a little about Healthy Choice food though.  Why is that?  Because, quite honestly fitness camps and weight loss camps are all about staying fit and being healthy, and it isn’t always easy to spend half an hour to an hour of food preparation to create a good meal.

To begin with the first comment about fitness camps being a place where being healthy and fit is a good place to start.  When you go to a fitness camp, you’re looking to make a change in your life.  Shed a couple of pounds, get a little faster, improve cardiovascular condition and hope to improve the quality of life that you currently have.  So when you arrive at a fitness camp you do a lot of movement for cardiovascular workouts, you lift light or medium weights, and you talk a lot about nutrition with the hope that when you leave the fitness camp you’ll take a whole lot of valuable information with you when you leave.  This way you can ensure that you won’t have to be a slave to diets, but rather keep a sensible regard towards what you put into your body.  The place where Healthy Choice foods fit into this side of the equation is that Healthy Choice prepackaged dinners provide balanced and well portioned meals.  They also permit another very important process take place.  The best way to put food into your body is by continuously feeding your body throughout the day in several smaller meals.  As an interesting side note, Sumo wrestlers only eat once or twice a day.  What this tells us is that there’s a big benefit to eating small meals throughout the day.  For one, you’re never or rarely hungry, and two, you have the added benefit of caloric burn from the digestive process.  This means that when you eat five times a day, your body is never storing excess calories in the form of fat because there’s never that much food in your body at one time to be stored, and it also means that you burn far more calories when your body digests 5 meals worth of food over the entire day as opposed to one or two big deals for a short period of time.  This is also very evident in that eat these smaller portioned meals, you don’t really feel bloated, stuffed and regretting that you ate so much, prompting you to do it again later when you’re feeling down on yourself.  Vicious cycles start somewhere, and it seems that Healthy Choice meals make it less likely to happen.

Another thing I mentioned about the relationship between fitness camps and Healthy choice is that while there is no reason for eating a meal that’s more refined than something freshly prepared, when you don’t have the time Healthy Choice is great.  When you go to a fitness camp, you learn a lot about nutrition to the point where you can talk to most anybody about what’s healthy and what isn’t.  Portion size is very important as well as is quality of food.  The thing about Healthy Choice is that its portion size is perfect, and the quality of food is pretty good as far as semi-refined foods are concerned.  The great thing about Healthy Choice meals is that they provide a great option to that fast food joint nearby or to the quick fix at home that usually ends up being very unfulfilling and calorie laden.  Another thing to take into account is that sometimes it’s not about time, but also about energy levels.  If for any reason, you come home a little late and are about to have dinner (which you shouldn’t be having too late, but it happens sometimes), and you’re too tired then that’s when the cereal starts coming out.  In fact for males 18-35 years of age, cereal is the number one dinner.  The reason this is terrible is because there is hardly any protein in the cereal and milk combination compared to the amount of carbohydrates being consumed.  When you eat a dinner like that, or like taking out the spaghetti Tupperware late at night, your body takes on a huge amount of carbohydrates that as soon as they hit your esophagus, they’ve started turning into simple sugars.  This means that when those sugars hit your bloodstream, they will bind with agents in your blood to be deposited as extra energy in your body.  This extra energy sounds neat to have, but this is just another way of saying body fat, especially if you eat it before bed.  Another side note about Sumo wrestlers is after they have their one or two meals of the day they usually take a long nap, and in fact, sometimes wake up during the middle of the night to eat and then go to bed.  That’s how you gain as much weight as a Sumo wrestler.

So this is a little food for thought, hehe, pun intended.  The idea here is to remember that fitness camps and weight loss camps are all about remembering to be healthy and fit in our daily lives.  When you go to a fitness camp or a weight loss camp the idea is to lose a lot of weight in a healthy manner in a relatively short amount of time.  However, you also want to leave with inspiration for working out harder at home, for eating better at home and for knowing how and when you should eat.  Because this is true of most fitness camps, we thought it would be a good idea to bring it up in the fitness camps blog.  Remember managing weight is 70% nutrition and 30% exercise.  Good luck campers!
